de Souza Group, a leading business house in Goa, having under its banner 5 starred hotels and 2 travel companies, started off as a single hotel venture 20 years ago. Over the years, it has grown into a 100 crore enterprise. The dynamic nature of the Group has seen it change constantly to keep up with the changing trends, but what hasn’t changed over the years, and what the Group prides itself in is the high and unmatched levels of excellence it has always been known for.
The de Souza Group was founded by two brothers, Ralph de Sousa and Late Norman de Souza hailing from Goa, India.  While Ralph was a realtor, Late Norman worked as a sales manager with a prominent 5 star hotel. The sudden influx of domestic and international tourists into Goa in the 1980’s motivated the two brothers to venture into the hospitality business.  In 1989, the first resort, CSM Leisure Resort was started at Calangute, thus marking the founding of the de Souza Group.
The next 5 years witnessed a rapid expansion in the Group with the start of a 3 star boutique resort, ‘Aldeia Santa Rita’ at Candolim in 1991.  In 1992, the de Souza Group diversified into travel and tour operations, with ‘Trans Orient Holidays Pvt. Ltd.’ located at Panjim.  In 1994, ‘Santiago Resorts’, a 75 room resort was launched.  This resort located in Calangute, was the first resort in Goa to offer an “All Inclusive” holiday plan to its customers, a trend that has widely caught on ever since.

In 1997, a 135 room 4 star resort ‘Sun Village’ was launched at Baga, Arpora, followed by a 55 rooms resort ‘The Horizon’, at Calangute.

The late 90’s witnessed a growth and diversification in the business of Trans Orient Holidays.  Besides charter handling and tours, a full fledged ticketing and Forex Division were added, and today, Trans Orient is an IATA accredited company and has offices at Trivandrum, Delhi, Jaipur and Bombay in India.

1994 saw the Group venture into real estate. de Souza Estate Holdings, a construction and estate development company fulfills the in-house construction requirements of the Group.  de Souza Estate Holdings had undertaken the entire construction of Sun Village Resort and apart-hotel Surya Sangolda, its youngest project.  Total attention has always been given to quality, schedules and cost control, and it is well equipped to undertake all future expansion activities of the Group.

In the year 2004, to cater to the growing needs of e-tourism, a second travel company , The Spice Route was launched, which specialized in handling the international internet travel sector to service clients from the entire European Continent. In keeping with changing trends in the travel and tourism scenario, this venture specializes in internet holiday bookings. With ‘e-commerce’ fast becoming the new module for reservations and with a bank of rooms in Goa, The Spice Route is on its way to becoming the  hub of  holiday  reservation companies,  not
only for the de Souza Group but to all the other hotels associated with our travel company, Trans Orient Holidays in Goa.

Their next ambitious project is to construct a resort township in the neighboring district of Sindhudurg.

With over 350 rooms, two travel companies, Goa’s second largest Forex division and estate development, the de Souza Group, with the blessings of the Almighty, is poised to conquer new horizons.
